Flag Poles

Well we had a cloudy day at Harewood yesterday, but we only had a few spots of rain!!

I helped Owlet (and lots of other people) put flag poles together ready to put them up on site tomorrow. Owlet also pitched her tent on the site last night but didn't sleep on site as it's not ready for us!!

More tomorrow and hopefully some photos!!

Trip to York

Hello everyone,

Well Owlet and Abbe had to go the Region office in York this morning to pick up lots of equipment. Owlet drove a huge white transit van (and she stalled it a few times!!) to York and back - and I went along too!!!

Abbe gave me a cuddle all the way to York as the van was big and a little scary, but I sat on my own on the way back!!

Abbe and Owlet loaded the van full of flag poles, leaflets, tents, flip chart stands and banners - iit was so full we had to leave some things behind!!

I have arrived at camp

Well Brownies,

I arrived at camp on Sunday with Owlet and we were very busy! We went for a walk onto the site and ha d agood look round an empty field - the site is huge - in fact iit is 75 football pitches in size and Owlet has to walk all around that!!!

We are staying at a local Guide house called Wynches tonight as we can pitch out tent yet!!

All packed and ready to go to Centneary Camp with Owlet

Hello everyone,

I've packed my case and helped Owlet pack hers and we are ready to head to Harewood House in the morning!! Keep looking out for our updates - then you can see what we have been up to!!

Lizzie and Owlet

An Upset Lizzie

Hi Brownies,

Owlet has just put some photos from the Brownies Take Ove rthe Tracks day and it brought back a few horrible memories of me in the luggage rack - I don't think you were very nice to me when you all did that, so I am a little upset today!

Lizzie

Newsflash!!

Newsflash!!

Owlet has washed my T-shirt last night - so it it is now white again!!

Brownies Take Over the Tracks

Well what a great day I had on saturday, I went on a steam train called Centenary Girl! from Pickering to Grosmont with lots of my Brownie friends.
We had a great time although I got a little grubby with all the soot, Owlet's got to give me a bath!
Our day trip was called 'Brownies take over the tracks' and was for Brownies to celebrate our centenary year.
We got on the train at 10am and we had all been given packed lunches. Lots of Brownies ate their lunch as soon as the train set off even though it was only 10am. I was very well looked after most of the way, although I did find myself stuck in the luggage rack at one point!
When we got to Grosmont we got to see Magic Mike, do some dancing and I even had a go on the bouncy castle with Jessica (there's a photo of this!)
We all got to sing Happy Birthday to the Brownies before we got our own cupcake and set off back to Pickering. It took us a bit longer on the way home as we had to get a new diesel engine when we were half way back, there was a problem with the first one. Some of the Brownies felt a little bit poorly on the way home but Tawny and Hedwig looked after them ( I think they'd had too much chocolate!)
We all had a lovely time and I can't wait for my next centenary celebration trip.

Lizzie Visits Skelton Brownies!

Owlet went to visit Skelton Brownies tonight. We went in the car to Shipton by Beningborough and there was lost of traffic.

The Brownies have been knitting a blanket as part of their Adventure 100 badge and have made a blanket that they would like Owlet to take toCentenary Camp and give it to an International group. Owlet took lots of flags with her to show soem of the countries who are sending some Guides to the camp. I really enjoyed seeing different Brownies and there was a lot of them!!!

Olave at the London Marathon

Hi I'm Olave Lizzie's little cousin & I wanted to tell you all about an exciting day that I had when I took part in the 2010 London Marathon. I was running with my friend Steve, who is Eve's Dad ( When I say running I actually mean that Steve did the running & I just went along for the ride!) He was raising money for Children With Leukaemia as his nephew, James has the disease.

Well, we got up early & arrived at the start in Greenwich Park, there were 1000's of other runners there, all getting ready for the race. We met up with some friends & I had my photo taken next to our running number. We soon set off & it was great fun as the crowds were out in force cheering us all on. Some were handing out sweets & others giving us high ( or in my case, low) fives. It was very tiring & Steve was making sure he drank lots of water.

Some of the other runners were running in fancy dress, although Steve said that it was hard enough carrying me around the 26 miles without having to dress up. The last few miles were exhausting & we slowed down quite a bit, however we picked up speed towards the end & finished in front of Buckingham Place in a time of just under 5 hours*. I had my picture taken with our medal & we all went for a long, long rest!

'*4hours 56 minutes 45 seconds to be exact' says Steve

Phew what a day!

St George's Day Parade 2010

How exciting was today???

Girlguiding UK led the parade this year as we are celebrating our Centenary and I went too!!!! The sun shone right until the last minute and I enjoyed a really fantastic service in teh Minster that include Emelia reading a prayer (very well I may add!!).

We have added some photos to a Gallery and if any of you Brownies have photos that Mum or Dad took and would like them adding to the Gallery - then email them in using the "Contact us" button!!

Lizzie's cousin - Olave

Hi everyone,

I would like to introduce you tomy cousin Olave! I am so busy this next weekend I have had to enlist some help this weekend. I am going to St George's Day parade here in York on Sunday 25th April, but we also have Eve's Dad running the London Marathon on the same day!!

Eve's Dad asked if I could go with him, so we explained where I would be - however we thought he needed some support as 26 miles is a long way, so I got Olave to agree to go and run the marathon with him!!

Another meeting!

Hello everyone,

Just a quick update to say that I went to another meeting today with Owlet at North East England - wasn't too exciting, so just a quick blog!!

Lizzie visits Oxford

Owlet went to Oxford this weekend for a meeting of the International Team for Centenary Camp. There were about 25 people there and they made me feel very welcome!!

They did lots of talking and they also had to practise dealing with difficult situations - I hope nothing happens on camp - but they are very good, so would soon have anything sorted out!!

I'm pictured here with Angela, Daphne, Abbe, carole and Clare

Lizzie went to London on the train!

I went to London on the train!!

I went to CHQ again for a meeting with Owlet, and this time it was quite interesting. I met people from all over the country!

See you at Brownies!

Lizzie Visits some Trainers

Owlet went to a support group for trainers tonight and had an interesting evening learning about Powerpoint and elephants!!

I am pictured with 2 of the trainers there - by the way they thought I was lovely!!

Curling

Hello again everyone - I have been trying the great Olympic sport of Curling this week!!!

Visit to Teesside

Hello,

I went to visit Teesside tonight with Owlet when she went to a Guide meeting. I had spent the day with Owlet at work and here is a picture of me sitting on her desk!!

Lizzie tries an Olympic Sport

It started to snow this morning and Owlet, Tawny and Brown Owl have been watching lots of the Winter Olympics on the TV.   It made me want to try and be Amy Williams (our only Gold medallist so far) and do the Skeleton Bob - I'm no expert as you will agree but I had fun but did get cold!!! Might try the curling next.........

One World One Beat

Hello everyone!

I had to get up early and get ready for a day out with the Brownies and a ride in Melanie (Tawny's new car). We went to One World One Beat at Askham Bryan yesterday and we had so much fun!! All the girls had to wear purple wristbands, so I had one too (although it was a little tight!). We arrived and there were so many other Rainbows, Brownies and Guides I was a bit scared, but the Brownies soon made me relax!

There were lots of entertainers who were there to teach us all new things. Everyone did two sessions of activities and then also watched the live link up with the other One World One Beat events happening yesterday.

Our first activity was working with Drum United and some boomwhackers - these are tubes of plastic that became the instruments and the girls all did different rhythms at the same time to make a brilliant sound! I didn't have a go at this as the tubes were all too big for me!!

After lunch (and thank you to Sarah G for sharing some crisps with me), we headed off to do a session called Soundjata - this was actually some West African dancing which was really good but we did get very hot and bothered! We met another Brownie Pack to do this with and they were lovely and friendly!

We then headed back to the marquee for the Finale - this is where we saw some of the other activities that we might have done - Indian Dancing, Japanese drums and Salsa dancing to name but a few!!

The Brownies all seem to have enjoyed themselves - I certainly did although it was a chilly day!!

Have a look at all the photos - they have been put in a gallery called One World One Beat - you can even see me dancing with Tawny!!

Lizzie meets Melanie

I met a new friend called Melanie on Friday night - Tawny's new car!! You will have to ask Tawny to tell you what type of car she is (unless you can guess from the pictures below!).

Visit to the Home Office

Hello everyone!

I went to London last Tuesday on the train and went with Owlet to the Home Office (see picture below). I had to be on my best behaviour and owlet couldn't take any photos inside the building only one of the outside. We got back home past my bed time but I enjoyed the day!

Lizzie and some critters

Hello!

I went to Brownies last week as 3 Brownies made their promise - well done to Harriet, Jessica and Lily.

The Brownies made some critters (that is what they were called) - actually the were, cats, pandas, bugs and chicks! They all looked so good I asked owlet to take my pictire with them - can you spot me???

Robin Hole, Burley in Wharfedale

Hello Brownies!!

I went out with Owlet yesterday to a Guide House called Robin Hole!! It was in a lovely town called Burley in Wharfedale and it took us about an hour to get there.

Owlet was meeting the Centenary Camp Sub Camp teams as they were having a meeting. Owlet had to pas on lots of information about what she has been doing with the International Team, so that was very interesting!

We had lunch whilst we were there - jacket potato with tuna, cheese and salad.

Some of the people there has pitched a Centenary Camp tent - these are the ones that all the girls camping at the camp will be using (although there will be different colours!), so I got Caroline the Sub Camps Director to hold me whilst she stood next to one (she was very nice by the way!!).

We had a lovely journey back in the car as it was nice and sunny and now I'm getting ready for Brownies tomorrow as 3 Tweenies are making their Promise.

See you all again soon!

Lizzie

Happy New Year!!

Hello everyone!!

I just thought I would come and say Happy New Year to you all and I am looking forward to a great 2010!

Lizzie

I met the Chief Guide today!!

I'm so excited!!!! I met the Chief Guide today and I know she is the lady that you named me after!! I do have to say I don't look anthing like her - I have lovely yellow fur and Liz doesn't!

Owlet went to the North East England Carol Service today in York Minster but before the service Owlet went to the Region office at Monks Cross and Liz Burnley was there!! In the photo below Liz is the lady who is holding me - she was a lovely lady and she spoke to me and put me at ease. The other ladies are the Ulster Commissioner and the National Trefoil Guild President - Owlet can explain more about these ladies if you would like her to?

Anyway, we went to a lovely service in the Minster - I'm not sure bears are allowed in the Minster so I sat in Owlet's handbag with my head peeping out! We sang lots of lovely carols including Good King Wenceslas and heard some stories and poems. I didn't have my picture taken in the Minster because Owlet wasn't allowed too!!

District Meeting

Hello - I went to another meeting with Owlet on Thursday evening - this was the District meeting where the guiders from this area all get together and get information and discuss things!

Another trip to London!

I went to London with Owlet again on Friday 27th November for a Centenary Camp meeting!

We went down on the Friday evening and stayed in a hotel near Marble Arch. A few other friends of Owlet's who are helping to organise Centenary Camp also stayed!

On the Saturday we went to the Headquarters of Girlguiding UK again - the scaffolding has gone!!

Owlet and Abbe ran a meeting for their International Team for Camp and one of the things they did was place cones on a map to identify the countries coming to camp so far!! I sat just above Antartica to have my picture taken!!!

We travelled home on Saturday evening and we had a bit of bother from some football fans on the way home but Owlet looked after me!

My Cousin

Hello,

No doubt you have seen a cousin of mine on the TV a lot (do you see the family resemblance?!!). He is called Pudsey and he raises lots of money every year for BBC Children In Need. I hope everyone will try to help if they can.

Lizzie

Night Walk

Hello everybody!

I went on a night walk with the Brownies last night and it was very dark!! We started at the railway station and ended up at the art gallery. This was part of the Brownies Adventure 100 Challenge and we wore Hi-Vis vests so everyone saw us!!

The Brownies took it in turns to carry me and we had a fun night and didn't lose anyone!! We had a few lovely parents come to help us and Maya also came along, so it was fun to meet some new people!

There are a couple of pictures on the Centenary gallery

Bells

I went to the Region office again at Monks Cross on Saturday with Owlet and I came home with 4 bells!!!!

You can see my bells behind me on this picture and I will be wering them tomorrow night - Owlet went to a Trainers Day and had to use some bells whilst planning a training session for some other Leaders.

I have a rain coat!

The Brownies were tie dyeing T-Shirts at Brownies and I just had to be there!! Owlet did explain that there was a chance I would become another colour if I didn't have a rain coat on or I was naughty! Here is a photo of me in my raincoat (which Brown Owl made for me) and there are more photos of the Brownies dyeing their T-Shirts on the Centenary Gallery page

Meeting

Hello again,

I went to a meeting with Owlet on Wednesday evening at White Rose House. There were lots of people there and I sat on the tea trolley (just for a minute before they started to make the tea so I was perfectly safe!!). The meeting wasn't as exciting as some I have been too, so perhaps I won't go to the next one!!

4 New Brownies - Yipee!!

Hello everyone,

We have 4 new Brownies as they made their Promise on Monday!! As usual I was there and had my picture taken wth Kailin, Abbi, Lauren and Sophie.

A cross Lizzie

Hello everyone!

I'm just going to say that I am a cross bear!! Some of the Brownies went bag packing yesterday morning at Asda, but Tawney and Owlet would not take me because they were terrified I would end up in a shopping bag and go hoe to the wrong place - that might be so but I wanted to go bag packing!!!

Anyway - I am off to Brownies tomorrow so see you all there!!

Flashback Evening

Guten Abend!!

Well the Brownies have been learning some German - including counting to 20! As part of their Adventure 100 badge they held a Flashback evening to the 1970's in Germany.

They all dressed up (see a few creations below) and we also had lots of food to taste. There was Rye bread with some cold Wurst (thats cold meat sausage to most of you!!). We had Bratwurst, Frankfurters and Sauerkraut!

We finished it all off my taing a mini Black Forest Bun home - it had cream and a cherry on top!!

Region Meeting

Hello everyone!

I went with Owlet to a Region Guiding Development meeting yesterday at the Region Headquarters at Monks Cross. All the Region Advisers were there and I learnt lots about some Centenary events that they are all busy planning for everyone, including a few Brownie events!! I sat on the table next to the sign that said who Owlet was and could see and hear everything!!

Visit to CHQ

I went to London on Saturday with Owlet!!

We went to Girlguding Commonwealth Headquarters (known as CHQ). We went on a very early train (7am!!) and then had to go on the London underground too - I was very excited!!

Anyway Owlet had a meeting but she did take me for a whistle stop tour of CHQ and I had my photo taken by the Foundation stone in the building. I did want my picture taken outside but there was lots of scaffolding on the front so I didn't. Hopefully when Owlet next goes in November it will have gone and I can show you the front of the building.

We had to walk past Buckingham Palace on our way back so we took a picture of that too!

We didn't get home until 8pm, so I was late to bed, but I had a very exciting day!!

Enrollment

Well hello again!

There was an enrollment at Brownies last night and I was lucky enough to be there by the toadstool - well done Ellie!

It was a lovely evening as the Brownies also decorated buns afterwards too and they got a bit sticky - I managed to stay clean again!!

Allotment Visit

Hello all,

This morning I went to Maya's allotment with the Brownies who are doing their gardeners badge. We dug up potatoes, pulled a few carrots and broad beans and gave the compost heap a stir! The sun shone the whole time we were there too!!

I managed to stay clean (thankfully) as we have an enrollment tomorrow at Brownies and I haven't got time to be washed!!

Here is a photo of us before we got started this morning and please make sure you look at the Chili Pepper Plant that one of us is holding - it has a lovely bright red chili pepper ready for picking, so well done to those Brownies!!

Telephone Conference

Hi everyone!

I'm sat listening in to a Centenary Camp teleconference call that Owlet is participating in - It's very interesting!!

Welcome

Well hello everybody and welcome to my blog!!

I received my name at Brownies last night - it's Lizzie!! I'm so excited as i'm told i'm named after our Chief Guide who is Liz Burnley. It's also exciting because I am a Centenary Bear and it is the Centenary Year of Girlguiding UK - so Happy Birthday to you all!!

I will be blogging throughout the year - the leaders and the Brownies are going to take me anywhere they go on Guiding Business so I am hoping that I will see and hear some interesting things. I will also get to have my picture taken at some events so you can see what I have been up too!!!!
